One of the most interesting sports, the indoor rowing debuted in Budapest at the World Urban Games 2019. Similar machines can be seen in gyms but this sport’s main goal is not to build up muscles but to reach the furthermost distance.
It was incredibly trendy in the last three days from the different sports represented at the World Urban Games 2019. Nicolas Parquic talked with excitement, because these indoor rowing events were not totally resembling the normal competitions. ‘A single race lasts from 6 to 34 minutes but in during these days it was different. Many features were modified and the techniques were also mixed.’
Many people was interested in the testing room where they could find out what their limits were. Nicolas Paquic Competition Commissioner told with great satisfaction: ‘Day after day there were more and more people coming. Everybody enjoyed this opportunity because when you sit on this machine you can see your speed, your pulse and you can practice your movement like if you were racing for real.’
It can be weird for a spectator how this indoor rowing fits into urban sports. ‘Even though this is not an original urban sport, the machines are there in every gym. We did not know how to introduce this sport but here at the World Urban Games 2019 there were a few interactive activities which was the perfect way to get the people’s attention. The good part is that you actually do not need anything for this, only the device and a big space’- said the frenchman.
