This type of basketball is played in the streets and gyms across the world. It is simple and flexible enough to be played anywhere by anybody. All you need is a hoop, six players and a half-court. This fast and spectacular game offers a great opportunity for new players who are attracted by the authentic atmosphere of urban culture.
The discipline made its worldwide competitive debut at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics in Singapore. After its success, FIBA launched a full program to make 3x3 a standalone discipline, which will make its Olympic debut at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
The rules of this game are straightforward: 2 teams of 3 players play against each other (with up to one substitute player per team). There’s only one basket on one half-court. Every team has 12 seconds to score a point. The first team to reach 21 points or the team with the most scores in 10 minutes wins.
